Required English Language Competencies
Required Access to Learning Resources
Access to Outside Resources
Access to Educational Technology

Admittance to any Akamai University degree program is based upon an assumption that you have the background (attributes and resources) and resources to achieve the objectives of your selected program. To assure a high likelihood for your success in the desired program, we have established a number of entry requirements to guide the Admissions Office in the review of your application materials.

Program Prerequisites

Bachelor's Program Requirements
Master's Program Requirements
Doctoral Program Requirements

The University requires that you to have completed the appropriate preparatory degree (or coursework) and specific subject matter competencies prior to enrollment. These foundational competencies assure the University that you have the necessary understandings, skills and competencies for successful completion of advanced studies. Your degree program will also have professional prerequisites requiring a minimum number of years of progressively more responsible career experience(or specific licensing). These professional requirements assure the University you are able to approach the subject matter in a mature manner and effectively apply new learning within real world settings. You must demonstrate you have completed these foundational elements by submission of official college transcripts (or other documentation) for Admissions Committee review.

Bachelor's Program Requirements
To enter the Bachelor's Program, you must have completed secondary school and at least an Associate's Degree (or the equivalent of 60 semester credits or two years of full time college study) from a recognized university. You are also expected to have several years of employment experience.

Master's Program Requirements
For acceptance to the Master's program, you should have completed a recognized baccalaureate degree in an appropriate field of study and have several years of career-related experience.

Doctoral Program Requirements
As a prerequisite for acceptance to the Doctoral program, you should have completed a recognized Master's degree in an appropriate field of study and have several years of progressively more responsible professional experience.

English Language Competencies
As an applicant, you must clearly demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English language communication skills according to American collegiate standards. A sample of prior scholarly (or professional) writing and a telephone communication with a member of the Akamai University faculty members are both required elements of the admission process. Students who have previously studies at an English language college or university, may not need to submit test scores. If you are an international student with English as a second language or if your prior college study was with non-English language colleges, you are required to submit a record of a recent TOEFL or ISLPR examination with sufficient academic score.

Akamai accepts scores from the following texting organizations:

International Second Language Proficiency Rating: (ISLPR)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
International English Language Testing System

Access to Learning Resources
As part of your application, you must provide assurance that you can successfully access appropriate learning resources including texts, journals, periodicals, databases, video- and audiotapes, online resources, relevant reference materials, and manuals of effective research and writing. These are the required materials through which your mentors will guide you in understanding foundational theories, principles and practices, and advanced concepts in your field of study.

Access to Outside Resources
You must also demonstrate you have access to essential external resources that provide avenues for practical application of learning such as field placement sites having essential facilities, equipment and qualified personnel. In addition, you are expected to identify professional enrichment activities to supplement your program such as outside seminars, conferences, workshops and retreats and the possibility of membership in professional associations and societies.

Access to Educational Technology
To be admitted to the University, you must have access to a computer, a telephone, and for the duration of your program have access to a confidential email account and the Internet. The University relies upon these electronic vehicles to support its major teaching and learning activities, as a means to support your effective interaction with mentors and to transmit formal documents, instructions and written assignments. Through distance technologies, you are provided guidance, allowing your mentors to explore with you the subject matter at a depth that is beyond the confines of the traditional classroom.

Introduction to Admission Process
Our Admission process is designed to carefully review your professional background and academic training. Your supportive information and documents must demonstrate you have achieved the minimum entry requirements for the desired degree and that you satisfy certain general expectations of the University. If you show a strong likelihood for success in your desired program, you are assured acceptance.

The most effective means for approaching the admission process is the following five step procedure:

  1. Send an email to the University's Office of Admission, clarifying your interests for study and requesting the application package.
  2. The University will reply with information and materials to aid you in preparing your application for admission. You will also be put in communication with a lead member of the Akamai faculty, so you may explore the particulars of your desired program.
  3. Once you have reviewed the program particulars and degree requirements, you should send and remaining questions and concerns to the Office of Admissions.
  4. Once the University has satisfactorily addressed your questions and concerns, submit your complete application package.
  5. The University will acknowledge receipt of your application and guide you through the remaining activities leading to your acceptance and formal registration.

Further Admissions Requirements
Given the fully external nature of our degrees, it is essential that you demonstrate access to the appropriate local libraries, learning resources and field study facilities. It is also important that you verify that you have access to a computer, email and Internet and other necessary means of communication for the duration of your program. You should make this an important part of your application package, since no student is admitted without this assurance. You must provide English language translations of all documents and, if necessary, a recognized educational credential evaluation of academic credits earned. As part of the admissions process, you are asked to have at least one telephone contact with an Akamai University faculty mentor in your proposed field of study or a senior administrator of the University (at your expense). These additional requirements help the Admission Committee better understand your career and academic interests, and more importantly, the strength of your professional maturity and English language competencies.
